Why Roller Coaster must never be closed

Postby antonyc » Tue Jan 19, 2010 9:21 pm

Although the future of Roller Coaster looks brighter than it did a year ago, nobody really knows what the future holds. This picture, taken last year by my daughter, shows why Roller Coaster must never be closed.

Although possibly not the most thrilling ride at Pleasure Beach, the absolute joy on the faces of the riders shows what a fantastic ride it is.

true there are too few pre war woodies left and although rolla was cannibalised from the velvet coaster its still and excellent ride.Personally all the woodies will outsee most of the steel coasters on the park because of ease to maintain .

Hi Kev

And another reason is that smaller kids can go on this ride as is shown by the little girl in the front carrage in your picture look at the joy on her face, this ride is a great way to allow the kids to get a start on a larger coaster, and if you get them young you have them for life, thus creating your customers of the future who will then bring there kids along to enjoy this ride and of course many of the others including the new ride for 2011.

Regards

your right its the natural progression from the zipper dipper which my wee girl would go on all day and after that theres the rola and perhaps even the avalanche (because it can take two people per section),the park needs that gradual step up to bring through the next generation of coaster loonies!!!

totally agree, it's a nice ride for all ages, i still love it and also good for younger folk or adults for whom more extreme rides are a no no.

a park shouldn't all be about terrifying rides, not in my opinion anyway :D

I agree all theme parks should have ride's for everyone. I have never been to BPB but look a good ride.

This is THE perfect family ride. I've seen kids running round to get back on, teens, parents and even grand parents re-riding.

That doesn't change the PB are closing the ride again at Easter for reasons best known to themself.

To my understanding (which could be wrong) it will close at the end of the Fun Weekends, which means it wont run on Good Friday or any time after that. This seems very daft to me, given that the park is likely to be busy over Easter, but this is what happened last year too.

Why do they open it only a few days a year? A waste of space if it is only open on selected days. :wall

Cost cutting, it was up until the end of 2008 a regular and normal ride like everything else.

It was planned to be SBNO for 2009 (like several other rides have been) but due to the Nationals downtime at the start of the year it was dragged back to life at the last minute for the WOW weekends.

Later, when the Big Dipper had the on-ride camera fitted it was opened again. Its saftey certificate was renewed in June, and it was used for an exceptionally busy weekend. The following Tuesday the Big Dipper crashed and it ran daily for the rest of the year.

It is planned to close again at Easter.

Roller Coaster is almost the hidden gem in the Park. With the new trains there is a fair amount of airtime.
Good starter coaster for kids, (small kids can get virtually thrashed on the Grand National.)
The track is a tad short, so I just go on it again & again!
To close it would be stupidity. I can understand on quiet days having it closed or open for just a few hours 0 as long as they show the opening times.

You can see the difference in the old and new trains in the videos. From the top of the chain lift the journey time is cut by almost 12 seconds!
I think this is a copy of the PB video - Old Train
